Planning approval for new ABN Group headquarters

Hesperia’s $35 million proposal to develop the former Leederville Hotel car park site has received planning authority approval, paving the way for construction of a new headquarters for ABN Group on the site.

The Metropolitan West Joint Development Assessment Panel granted approval for the proposed 9,000 square metre project on Vincent Street.

Through a partnership between Hesperia and ABN Group, the project will house a new headquarters for the Group’s home building and property development businesses. More than 1,000 employees will occupy the building under a 12-year lease, with two five-year extension options. ABN Group is expected to move into the building by mid-2021.

International artist Tom Muller has been commissioned to customise the building’s facade. Previous commercial projects by Mr Muller include Afterlight, the LED lighting system at Perth Council House, and Ghost Line at Sydney Carriageworks.

PACT Construction will carry out building works on the project, with design by HASSELL.
Hesperia director Adrian Fini described the partnership with ABN Group as exciting, and one that would add to the vibrancy of Leederville.

City of Vincent Mayor Emma Cole said she was excited to welcome ABN Group to Leederville.

“Bringing hundreds of staff into this vibrant town centre will have major benefits for our local businesses, and no doubt will be a boost for Leederville’s diverse mix of cafes, restaurants, bars and independent retailers,” she said.

“Daily foot traffic is what is needed to keep our high streets alive and thriving.

“The City of Vincent has begun the process of developing new planning guidelines for Leederville, our largest town centre, to attract quality residential and mixed-use development.”
