Construction begins at Orthonova Orthopaedic Centre
September 9, 2025

A new hospital set to transform the future of orthopaedic care in Western Australia is now under construction.
To celebrate the milestone, Hesperia was joined by St John of God Health Care, orthopaedic surgeon partners, and project builder Built for the official groundbreaking and site blessing.
Located within the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct, Orthonova Orthopaedic Centre is designed to provide patients with exceptional clinical care and comfort.
The project is the first in Western Australia to bring together a leading private healthcare operator with specialist surgeons to develop and later operate a hospital jointly. Designed together with some of Perth’s most respected orthopaedic surgeons in collaboration with St John of God Health Care and Hesperia, the hospital will feature leading technology in sports surgery, including the latest in robotic joint replacement. St John of God Murdoch Hospital CEO, Ben Irish said evidence-based patient care was at the centre of all design decisions.
“The great advantage of this collaboration is that we have some of the world’s leading orthopaedic surgeons lending their clinical expertise and insights to create a hospital specialising in these procedures,” Mr Irish said.
Hesperia Managing Director Ben Lisle said both public and private healthcare services needed to keep pace with the evolving needs and demands of WA’s growing community.
“Orthonova represents another significant commitment by Hesperia to the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct, following the successful completion of Murdoch Square,” Mr Lisle said.
“We are committed to working with our healthcare partners to support the development of new health infrastructure in emerging health service hubs, while also collaborating to improve, expand and extend the services offered from existing locations across the metropolitan area.”
Spanning four stories, Orthonova will feature four state-of-the-art operating theatres, 38 inpatient beds and premium day suites. A linking corridor will connect Orthonova to St John of God Murdoch Hospital’s existing 510-bed facility.
Construction is slated for completion in early 2027, with the Centre scheduled to open shortly after. Once operational, Orthonova is expected to create more than 200 new jobs and treat 4,000 patients per year.
Orthonova is located on the St John of God Murdoch Hospital campus, directly across from Hesperia and Aegis Health’s Murdoch Square precinct, which officially opened in March 2024.
Orthonova has been assessed by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and is on track to receive a 5 Star Green Star rating representing Australian excellence in better, healthier, and more responsible buildings. This represents a significant milestone for the project, demonstrating Hesperia’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.
